About

Dr. Will Anderson

Dr. Will Anderson began his medical studies in Yorkshire, UK, where he completed his undergraduate training at the University of Leeds.  After working as a junior doctor at St James University Hospital, he ventured to New Zealand for a year abroad but decided to stay.

He joined the General Surgical specialist training program, with placements in New Plymouth, Whangarei, Tauranga and Auckland and earned his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2019. To further refine his skills, Will completed three fellowship years in Australia; working in Darwin, Geelong, and the Gold Coast. These years provided him with invaluable experience in cutaneous (skin) oncology, minimally invasive hernia surgery, and oncoplastic breast surgery, including implant reconstruction. His placements in Geelong and the Gold Coast were part of the prestigious Breast Surgery Fellowship with Breast Surgeons of Australia & New Zealand (Breast SurgANZ). This programme advanced his skills in oncoplastic breast surgery, implant-based breast surgery and breast reduction.  In his final fellowship year, he performed or assisted in over 80 implant-based reconstruction cases.

Will settled with his young family in Whangarei in 2022 and works full time at Whangarei public hospital as well as in private practice.  At the public hospital, Will is the Chair of the Northern Skin Cancer Governance Committee.  In this role, he works with GPs and other specialists to develop and improve the skin cancer service provided in Northland.

He also has a leading role in the breast cancer service where he has co-ordinated the role out of new technologies and techniques to the Northland region such as Magtrace and Targeted Axillary Dissection.

Will is a member of the Breast and Skin Cancer Multi-Disciplinary Teams. All cancer cases are discussed at these cancer board meetings with oncologists, radiologists and expert surgeons to ensure that the best plan is made for each patient.

Will enjoys his teaching role at the hospital and also makes himself available to support GPs with their training.  Please get in touch if you feel Will could support your practice through providing training or further information on his specialist areas.
